Preauthorized payment ICBC Cancellation

When paying for Car insurance in Vancouver ( British Columbia ) you need to Authorise a preauthorized payment from your bank to ICBC. This usually

ICBC unfortunately decided to cancel monthly payments via Cheque

Recently I sold my car , however as I did not return my license plates and was out the country ICBC still took the monthly payments. I called up Vancity who put a stop to the transactions however I needed ICBC to stop the payments

A fax to ICBC said I have to sign a form and send it back to them with my signature declaring I got rid of my plates. The whole process took 1 month due to postage and in the end they took a leaving amount from me as well!

Lesson is to hand back the plates when you sell your car!
