So you’ve purchased a car or thinking about purchasing a car in British Columbia. Insurance in Canada is expensive, without no claims expect to pay e.g. for a 4 door Sedan up to $200/month for $1,000,000 Third Party Coverage. So you will want to reduce as much as possible. Usually in the UK you get your old UK Driving Insurance provider to email or mail your new provider. However ICBC is different, the No Claims you receive from your insurance provider will just have the number of years no claims bonus you have , instead or stop and start date.

They will need to email or post back a letter like the below

1381377097655

  1. Insurance company letterhead—not from your broker or agent

  2. Insurance company contact information

  3. Date of issue

  4. Name of principal operator and insured persons of the vehicle being insured with ICBC

  5. Policy number(s)

  6. Effective dates of coverage

  7. Details of any claims, or state clearly that there were no at-fault claims

  8. Signature of company representative

Someone has put together a nice form already http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Image:Letter_to_UK_Insurers_%28Template%29.doc , try and customise this for each insurer and email/post it to them!

You can get this all before you get your car , or you can get your car and ICBC says you have up to 6 months ( some people have managed to get longer than this ) to get the above approved and they will refund your discounts from the start.

If you plan to do after you get your car insured , you will need to fill out this form

Submit this application with letter(s) from previous insurance companies to:
